ROOTED IN wellness, community, and education.

FOOD MARKET

Rooted In focuses on fresh, local food from the Chesapeake region, supporting small farmers by connecting them with consumers. Our products are focused around encouraging health and wellness, including a branded line of prepared food from our commercial kitchen. We also offer SNAP programs, benefits, and advocate for the wellbeing of our community to purchase more fruits and vegetables, and live healthier and happier lives.

LEARNING CENTER

Education is the heart of CGR and Rooted In’s mission. We believe that a strong foundation of education sets the individuals and communities up for longterm success. Our programs are created for all ages, demographics, and races with a special focus wellness. We host cooking classes, tasting events, hosted dinners, and health education workshops that build confidence to make healthier choices for their families. These events bring the community together.

URBAN GARDEN

Urban agriculture benefits communities that have been historically excluded from access to land and health foods. We work with the City of Baltimore to support gardening and farming in the city. We use vegetables, fruits, and herbs grown from our garden to be key ingredients or garnishes in our recipes used during our cooking classes or during tasting events. We teach urban agriculture growing techniques that our community can apply to their own yards.

COMMERCIAL KITCHEN

A commercial kitchen is a resource for preparing our branded line of foods for the food market, teaching the community how to cook healthy foods, and providing space to support local food entrepreneurs and small farmers with the equipment, resources and guidance needed to grow. We focus on farm to table and value added, shelf-stable products on the shelves such as ferments and preserved foods. Our facility is fully equipped, licensed, and insured.

ROOTED IN program leadership.

I am, Myra, Director of Operations and Certified Nutrition Specialist Candidate.

I am passionate about empowering and educating the community that food is medicine and how to heal our body, mind, and spirit through natural methods such as nutrition, herbal medicine, meditation, and energy work. The modern-day healthcare system, pharmaceuticals, and hospitals only provide a quick fix and slap of a bandaid to a much deeper problem of a broken system.

The integrative and cost effective solution to lasting health and wellness is a whole-person and patient-centered approach with an emphasis on preventative care and root cause treatment. By educating and stewarding our local community, we create systems of lasting change that radiates out into the greater community.

I hold a dual Master’s from Maryland University of Integrative Health in Nutrition and Integrative Health and Herbal Product Design and Manufacture. I am a CNS Candidate of the American Nutrition Association.

As the Program Director of Rooted In and the Director of Operations of CGR, I lead and manage a complex engine, connecting a broad network of market producers, farmers, consumers, city officials, and key experts in the region and beyond.
